not enough

REcycle week is coming , unless the indian govt takes a re-look at the difficulties faced by the recylers here nothing is gonna improve, the phone companies which are polluting the enviroinment with e-waste are getting tax benifits in budget 2010,but nothging for recylers.why cant we recyclers have s.e.z like software firms, why cant we have scrap metal theft legislation like in u.s. states, why cant we have less vat tax for spareparts .A pressure cooker is taxed here at 4 % but a cooker spareparts which will extent the life of a cooker saving a lot of rawmaterials is charged 12.5 %...ppl will feel instead of repairing lets buy new.... wat we recyclers want is a total re-look.let the govt hear us. we are the best chance to really go green.

  1. Agree - but there is a reason why Govt is not keen on encouraging re-cycling: there isn't much money in this industry. hence it has taken a backseat. Our politicians are more interested in areas where they can take a "cut" and re-cycling just does not cut it.

The only thing that can help is self-help groups, corporate sponsorships, non-profit organizations, media attention & celebrity messaging. But this seems a very tall order in India. The Govt is not to blame - it is the outlook of the people. Indians just dont feel strong abt the concept of re-cycling. Funny since we remember how our grandmom's and grand dads recycled a lot of stuff like Milk Packet covers, plastic covers, etc. The idea just died over the years.
